v-day

Written by george on February 13th, 2010

So my last post was a summary of the previous year and a question as to what would be done this year. Well…I’m still not sure.

If anything, I’ve decided that I want to do more and talk less. It’s so easy to watch someone else do something and then brag about it as if I took part in it my self. It’s especially true with tv. I even catch myself getting hyped up about how much weight someone is losing on Biggest Loser, or some adventure that Bear Grylls just went on. The sad part is that for all that time I was just sitting on the couch.

Now…there is something to be said for inspiration and motivation. With the Olympics coming up, this couldn’t be more true. But I’m challenging myself to not just take inspiration and let it fade away, but to consider it and act on it.

So…what have I been doing this year so far? (aside from blogging less…sry). For one, my wife and I started P90X. (btw, this is another one I’ve heard people hype up as a great program only to find out that they haven’t actually done it..but only talked to some other people that did). We’re 4 weeks into it, and yes it is brutal. I’ll keep you more posted on that one later. I also signed up for the Warrior Dash on May 1. I am freakin excited about this one. I haven’t really run since the marathon and am looking forward to a very different kind of race.

Finally, I took on a special project for my wife. A few weeks ago, I got inspired for an idea for valentine’s day and decided to go for it. As an architect, we have a plethora of interior finish samples around the office, so for v-day I basically gave my wife 1296 paint chips. All arranged neatly on a board like this…

Nice work George. I would love to know how you figured out what color samples went where…that had to take up the most time. I assume you photoshopped it, pixelated it….is there an easy method to getting those color values down? Very interesting. We did one similar in my class…but we used a BW photo and had fewer value ranges.

BJ, the song is “What I Wouldn’t Do” by A Fine Frenzy. And it took a LONG time, but probably not as long as your ultra will be ;-)

Jeb, I cropped the image to what I wanted and set the image size to 36×36 pixels. And I actually found a website for color help… http://www.easyrgb.com/index.php?X=SEEK
It lets you enter the RGB (or HTML #) and it gives you the matching paint sample. And they happen to have sherwin williams which is what we mostly use in the office. Then it was just a lot of copy and paste from photoshop to website to excel to keep track of all of them. Doing it this way also let me use a lot more colors–around 200 or so. If you have a picture of the one from your class, you should post it on your blog–I’d love to see it!
